We ran a series of workshops to raise awareness and alert local residents to the koala population sharing our suburbs. Many residents who had lived in the area reported a very vocal koala population when development began here 30 years ago. Although the numbers are unfortunately probably in decline - koalas still live and co-exist in our suburbs. When bushland is cleared the koalas are forced to move but they are still seen quite frequently around. Check out the map in this article which EPA produced including our sightings. If you click on the map it will open as a larger image. .
The State Planning Policy which will supposedly offer some protection for koala habitat that is mapped - will provide nothing for those areas that are NOT MAPPED.
