Logan and Albert Conservation Association has written to local Residents of Cedar Vale to alert them of this application. letter_to_residents_com-57-2008_02.07.08.doc
We believe that because of the local state and federal significance of the ecosystem that only the best environmental outcomes available under the latest planning schemes and government legislation should be applied. The vegetation soil structure slope and water or drainage lines all make the ecosystem.
The official scientific name of the vegetation type of the Veresdale Scrub is Araucarian microphyll to notophyll vine forest on sedimentary rocks - Regional Ecosystem RE 12.9-10.16.
It is also known as Araucarian Notophyll vine scrub but locally we know it as the Veresdale Scrub. As at 1 August 2006 this regional ecosystem has Endangered status under both the Environmental Protection Agency, Biodiversity Classification and the Vegetation Management Act 1999 (under the Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Water).
Originally the Veresdale Scrub covered a large tract of Mulunjali country before European colonisation stretching from the northern and north-eastern outskirts of Beaudesert through the areas of Gleneagle, Veresdale, Woodhill and Cedar Vale. The areas of dry vine scrub grew in thick patches intermingled on drier ridges and poorer soils with eucalypt forests along the western slopes of the Birnam Range down to the Logan River and formed part of a matrix of lowland dry rainforests that occurred throughout South East Queensland and other bioregions along the east coast of Australia.
