This classic Dr. Seuss story tells the tale of the Once-ler, an industrious new comer who exploits a beautiful paradise, and the Lorax, who "speaks for the trees, for the trees have no tongues" and warns the Once-ler of the perils of overuse.
"The Lorax" is an engaging and educational tale with a hopeful message for the future.  Although it is intended to appeal to younger children its message is one we could all heed. Planet Ark's website contains the 24 minutes cartoon adaptation as part of its promotion for Get Growing on Schools Tree Day, Friday 31st July 2009. The book of The Lorax is published by Random House (ISBN: 0394823370).

Vote for the earth on March 28th by turning off the lights for Earth Hour 2009! Now in its third year running, the event is an incredible display of solidarity among the green movement, and this year they're looking for 1 billion participants to turn off their lights next Saturday between 8:30pm and 9:30pm. Don't miss out on this chance to raise awareness for climate change and cast your vote for the earth in the fight against global warming!

The current South East Queensland Regional Plan 2009-2031 includes North Maclean as an identified growth area whose future proposed land use or zoning is Enterprise Precinct.

In the previous plan the area was labelled an investigation area. The planning language or jargon is misleading as investigation is still required - but the community is still waiting to see background studies for other planning decisions. Without broad community consultation governments have made poor decisions.

People power persuaded the former Beaudesert Shire Council to reverse their hasty decision to suggest an Enterprise Precinct at North Maclean. Read the letter sent by former Beaudesert Shire Council to the Office of Urban Management and the reply to them. Has this information been conveyed to Logan City Council? Have the potentially affected landowners had an opportunity to discuss their concerns with Logan councillors? Recently acquired copies of this correspondence - after months of asking - are published here in the public domain.

Electromagnetic hypersensitivity has been linked to cancer clusters in Brisbane according to local author Donna Fisher whose book Silent Fields published August 2008  relates the exciting account of the author and her neighbours in the Queensland suburb of Tanah Merah who without much technical, medical and legal experience did battle with the large public company, Energex to stop them from building an electricity sub-station in their street which they felt would be unsafe.

The breast cancer cluster at the Australian Broadcasting Commission's Toowong TV Studios - which has supposedly left the experts baffled yet again - has prompted the author to explain why situations such as this are occurring worldwide.

 Regional plan discussed

Environmental Defenders member Jo Bragg talks the crowd through legal implications the draft plan
CONCERNED environmental groups gathered on Saturday to discuss the 2009-2031 draft South East Queensland Regional Plan.
Logan and Albert Conservation Association (LACA) vice president Kathy Faldt said about 40 people including representatives from the Environmental Defenders Office, Wildlife Logan, LACA and members of the public met to voice their concerns and discuss a way forward.
"The problem is the growth and development that is planned is not sustainable," Ms Faldt said.

The Australian Koala Foundation (AKF) has warned the Queensland Government's new koala habitat mapping project will expose the South East Queensland koala population to extinction.

AKF CEO Deborah Tabart  said the Queensland Government recently employed engineering consultants to undertake ‘extensive' mapping of koala habitat in South East Queensland; mapping intended to assist in the species' protection. The project, worth nearly one million dollars did not go to tender, even though other consultants could have competed for the work.

"Sadly, the methodology is significantly flawed and will leave surviving koalas and habitat without any protection in this fast-growing region," Ms Tabart said.

Dear Resident,

In 2004, the South-east Queensland Regional Plan (SEQRP) was released by the State Government to plan development and growth in South-east Queensland. The plan declared the Mt Lindesay North Beaudesert area as an investigation area. In October 2005, a plan considering the development and urban footprint for the Mt Lindesay North Beaudesert area was released to the public for community comments and amendments were made to the 2004 SEQRP . The South-east Queensland Regional Plan is intended to be reviewed every 5 years, and the plan is currently being reviewed (earlier than originally planned) and is now out for another round of community consultation that closes on 3rd April 2009.

In the Mt Lindesay North Beaudesert area, the SEQRP includes large developments proposed for
1. Park Ridge - urban, commercial, industry, enterprise precinct
2. North Maclean - light industry and offices
3. Greenbank - urban with high density living, transit oriented communities
4. Flagstone - urban, plus others
5. Yarrabilba - urban plus others
6. Chambers Flat/Stockleigh/Jimboomba - Southern Infrastructure Corridor (rail/road)
7. Browns Plains/Park Ridge South/Chambers flat/ Stockleigh - Proposed Gateway Motorway Extension
8. Bahrs Scrub - urban growth

The development proposed for the areas 1-8 above are the same as they were 4 years ago .
