REPORT ALL ADVERSE EXPERIENCES with agricultural chemical products

poison_sm.gifThe national body the Australian Pesticides & Veterinary Medicines Authority APVMA states on its website that it investigates all reports of adverse experiences with agricultural and veterinary chemical products. An adverse experience is an unintended or unexpected effect when the product is used according to the label instructions. This includes impacts on human beings, animals and crops, and damage to the environment. There are SEVERAL WAYS TO SUBMIT A REPORT - online, email, complete printed form and post, phone and fax. This page from the APVMA website  has links for those options and other background documents. For your convenience the form to complete for human health issues is here. To report environmental issues use this form.

The site also provides an information sheet and a 31 page public information package. This document states that APVMA is committed to ensuring that pesticide products and veterinary medicines sold in Australia

  • are of a high quality
  • do not pose a threat to people, domestic or native animals, crops, plants, things or the environment
  • will not pose any unacceptable risk to trade with other nations, and
  • continue to work effectively

It further defines 'serious' 'minor' and 'urgent'. Examples of serious are "significant environmental damage,...and water quality issues", "farm, domestic and native animal deaths" and "significant effects in a human".

Guidelines for reporting are provided in this document. In situations where human health impacts may be affected by pesticide exposure it is important to discuss this with your doctor. If clinical symptoms continue to be of concern seek advice from environmental and clinical toxicologists.
