NOW CLOSED but comment on QG Draft Koala Plan open until 27 February 2009

The Queensland Government is taking action to address threats to koalas in Southeast Queensland based on recommendations of the Koala Taskforce. One of the key actions recommended is to undertake extensive mapping of koala habitat in South East Queensland.

EPA Queensland Environmental Protection Agency has commenced a koala habitat assessment and mapping study across SEQ to assist in the protection of this threatened species in the region.

To assist in this mapping project koala conservation or related groups are invited to provide information on koala distribution and habitat usage in their local areas. All contributions are welcomed and will be considered in the study. However groups are requested not to resubmit information already provided to EPA for inclusion on the Wild Net data base. We have however been advised that old data will not be included. Please ensure you report all sightings in last couple of years if have not yet done so.

Groups can express interest by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. Dr David Dique Manager Ecology at GHD may be able to give you more information if needed.

Contributions to GHD are required by 13 February 2009.

This is particularly important as the Interim Koala Habitat Protection Areas does not cover any areas in Logan except in the Mt Cotton area or areas in the Scenic Rim Region.
